Mindfulness Through Yoga workshop at Podar School

Sadguruji Dr. Mangeshda conducted the above workshop for the teachers and staff of Lilavatibai Podar High School, Santacruz, Mumbai at their lovely auditorium which was jam packed with hundreds of teachers eagerly waiting to listen and absorb the valuable lessons by Dr. Mangeshda who has been practising and teaching Yoga for the past 50 years. Sadguruji Dr. Mangeshda mentioned that for International day of Yoga 2018, he has kept a target to teach and spread yoga to masses between the period 15th to 21st June’18 and today’s workshop was the beginning of this year’s IDY 2018.

After a brief introduction of the multi-faceted Dr. Mangeshda, Sadguruji began his workshop with simple warm ups and Asans to make the body flexible. He explained that teachers are under tremendous stress from all quarters and hence find it very difficult to specifically take time out from their busy schedule for fitness. He patiently and gently guided the teachers, rectified their postures and slowly the teachers started enjoying the Asans since their flexibility improved. Sadguruji explained the benefits of each Asans, who should/ should not do these Asans and simple yet very effective techniques to practise these Asans. These were demonstrated by trained and experienced teachers of the Foundation and also by the wonder child master Shubham, who incidently, is a student of Podar School.

Sadguruji Dr. Mangeshda then proceeded to teach various pranayams and explained the benefits of each of these powerful pranayams. The immediate feedback from the teachers was that they have started to feel lightness in the body and are feeling fresh.

After a brief break, Sadguruji broke the pre-conceived notions regarding Mediation and from his vast repertoire and experience, he disclosed and taught various simple yet powerful Meditation techniques. The participants were pleasantly surprised to learn such Meditations techniques in such a short time and had started enjoying the same and assured Dr. Mangeshda that they would regularly practise these techniques.

Dr. Mangeshda then proceeded to teach about Mindfulness thorough Yoga. The various factors that we consciously need to practise by remaining alert regarding our thoughts, actions and reactions. This would help to reduce stress, increase concentration and memory power and give an individual numerous solutions to face any situation calmly and fight negativity.

There were lots of queries from the participants seeking solutions to the various ailments. Sadguruji Dr. Mangeshda, who is a patron of International Naturopathy Organisation and who is regularly consulted including doctors, provided very useful tips including simple home remedies to reduce the ailments and encouraged them to follow a healthy lifestyle.

While concluding the session, Dr. Mangeshda mentioned that Yoga is such a vast subject that it cannot be taught in such a short time. What he disclosed and presented today was just a glimpse of the wonderful gift that we Indians are blessed with and he was certain that with daily practise, these teachers would find great improvement thereby passing on this wonderful legacy to the students and in turn making our country and its citizens very healthy and contributing to the development of our nation. He thanked our Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modiji for ensuring that International Yoga Day is celebrated world over every year on 21st June and spreading the knowledge and gift of Yoga all across the world.

Dr. Mangeshda thanked the Principal, teachers and staff of Podar school for the wonderful arrangements and the interest shown in learning Yoga and assured them that he will always be available to conduct more such seminars and guide them on the path of fitness and healthy living.
